John Evans

ANAHEIM, Calif. - John T. Evans, formerly of Billings, Mont., passed away on July 27, 2006, at his home in Anaheim, surrounded by a family of friends. John fought a long, courageous battle with cancer for many years and left this world in the same way he chose to live his life, according to his own schedule.
John was born on Feb. 17, 1955, to Betty and William Evans. He grew up in Billings and graduated from West High School in 1973. John went on to attend the University of Montana in Missoula and Eastern Montana College in Billings, where he graduated in 1976. In his youth he was an Eagle Scout and received awards for leadership and trap shooting. As an adult, John pursued his pilots license and excelled in his chosen profession as a Realtor. He moved to San Diego in 1988 and later to Anaheim where he retired at the age of 38. He married Patty O'Connor in 1993.
In John's younger years he was often affectionately referred to as "Dad" Evans. John received the nickname from his common sense approach in watching out for others. As he grew older, he loved to tell stories about his younger years. He shared his keen insight into human nature with wit and compassion. Although he was a hardworking, successful businessman in his younger life, after the diagnosis of cancer John used his new perspective to squeeze as much life as possible into his remaining time. During this period, he lived life to the fullest by nurturing close friendships, enjoying his favorite hobbies of coin and gun collecting, and being an avid fan of Indy Car and Formula 1 races.
Although patience was not always his strongest virtue, John lived his life with kindness and integrity. During his later years, he changed the lives of many, often unaware and without recognition. He never dwelt on his own illness, but instead taught others valuable lessons through his sense of humor, random acts of kindness, courage and generosity. John loved California, "where the weather is perfect," but also retained a love for his native state, Montana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Betty, and his cat (and best friend), Homer. His large family of friends survives him. All who were fortunate enough to call him a friend will miss him.
Cremation has taken place.
